I can't come up with the name for this 1967 building condo converted and renovated in 2005 by Sable Developments so if you know, drop me a line. The term "silk purse from a sow's ear" comes to mind with this eye-catching four-storey walk-up concrete building. It was a very plain little rental building before renovations transformed it into an ultra-modern building of 19 small but very cute suites. Calgary-founded Sable was known for its high-end condo conversions, including Taymar in Mission, before moving into resort developments in B.C.
The 19 suites are all one-bedrooms ranging from 497 to 593 square feet with ultra-modern finishings and a "revolve wall" that allows a bookcase and TV to be flipped to face either the bedroom or the living room. Hookups were installed in all suites for combined non-venting washer/dryer machines. There's assigned parking around back, with half of it tucked under the building, leaving room for a single suite on the ground floor and six suites per floor for the next three levels. The below-grade suite and the adjacent lobby have a dug-out patio at the front of the building.
The developer put in all new exterior windows and doors, which are common property. I have the building's condominium plan on file.
