Lake Fraser Drive, Court and Green, S.E.
Bonavista Estates 1 and 11
Well-off baby boomers and retirees were the target market in 1999 when this two-phase multi-building development was first marketed. Today two courtyard gardens with driveways, Lake Fraser Court (south) and Lake Fraser Green (north), are the focal points for the two condo communities. Ample visitor parking is in front of each building in both courtyards, and visitors' cars can be buzzed in at the driveway gates.
Bucci developments built these homes behind Avenida Place and Bonavista Square mini-shopping malls, giving residents walking access to all the coffee shops, restaurants and shopping services they need. The Lake Bonavista Village retirement home lies immediately north of the Estates phase one and phase two buildings. Bus service is nearby, and the C-Train runs just across MacLeod Trail, with the nearest stop being Canyon Meadows station. There's also walking access to Southcentre Mall via a pedestrian overpass of Anderson Road; 'very convenient.
Both phases are gated communities with large in-ground parkades and quality low-rise frame buildings atop those. Grounds are extensively landscaped. Suites tend to be spacious with bells and whistles including nine-foot ceilings, natural-gas fireplaces, gas supplies to balconies, some rounded corners and air conditioned common areas. There's a gym and a clubhouse with billiards, a mini movie theatre, a kitchen and patio space so parties can spill outdoors. Each phase has guest suites that can be rented for a nominal cost. Many suites own two parking stalls and there's extra storage in the garages.
One-bedroom suites are commonly larger than 800 square feet, and two-bedroom suites can range up to 1,440 square feet, usually with a real den, as opposed to the nooks we see today that are mis-labelled a "den". 'Nice developments that should host a real sense of community. I could retire here and be quite happy.
