Construction is largely complete with sales through the resale market, but a few new luxury suites were still selling in 2010 at the last building, the nine-storey CopperCrown in the premier south-east corner with golf course on two sides.
Tucked behind the municipal Shaganappi Golf Course off Bow Trail, this large multi-phase luxury condo apartment project by Sandlewood Developments wrapped up construction in 2010 after almost 10 years. It's a wonder how Sandlewood picked up so much prime land in such a good setting so close to downtown. The south half of nine buildings back onto the golf course, while the north half backs onto the parkland slope ,"Spruce Cliff", leading down to the Bow River and the Lawrey Gardens natural area. You can bike into downtown from here without crossing a single road, although you have to bump over the CPR line down by the river once. 'Quite the location!
The entire development hosts almost 500 suites in nine buildings, with several buildings sharing an address, such as the three at 24 Hemlock Crescent. There are three condo corporations grouping things together into workable chunks, with everyone having access to the large amenities building at the south end, and which served as the show home for a decade. All but the last concrete 9-storey tower in the prime south-east corner are four-storey frame-with-overlay buildings atop in-ground concrete garages fronted by large areas of surface visitor parking and surrounded with extensive landscaping.
Buildings were marketed on the CopperWood theme: CopperCrest, CopperCliff, CopperCrown (that last taller tower), and so on. Naturally the clubhouse is called CopperClub and will have direct access from the CopperCrown tower, which overlooks the golf course to its south and east. The golf course was rebuilt some years ago, going from a prairie-like series of fields to a verdant rolling landscape with extensive sand and water features ('only rain water is used!). A slice will be taken off the south edge of the golf course for construction of the west-leg C-Train line, which is to have a stop at Westgate Mall in 2012.
CopperWood suites tend to be large with non-rectangular layouts and half of the suites in several buildings having corner settings. All suites have in-floor radiant heat, nine-foot ceilings, a gas fireplace, and generally high-end finishings and appliances. Of course every building has elevator service and ample indoor parking, so numerous suites have two titled stalls. The CopperClub building offers a lounge with patio space, a theatre, games room, gym, and a library. Yes, the various buildings have basement storage lockers, bike storage, car wash bays and workshop spaces.
The nine-storey CopperCrown building is concrete, with brand-new golf-course suites and penthouses still available early in 2010. The two penthouses are sprawling homes with extensive outdoor spaces where a hot tub would fit in very nicely.
Exterior windows and doors at CopperWood are common property for their maintenance and eventual replacement (I should live so long!). I have on file original marketing materials, most floor plans, and Condo Plans for all phases.
